What is Focus?
Focus is why you do what you do; why you exist here and now.
If you have focus:
- you see meaning and direction in your life and work
- you bring determination and decisiveness to all that you do
- you know what it is to be fully alive.
With focus you are:
- conscious of what is truly unique about you – and how that benefits the world
- on track - with a shining beacon to follow when the way ahead isn’t so clear.
Focus for Focussed People
I was focussed enough to create the time, resources and ambition that would eventually help me find my raison-d’ ê etre. And so it is with my coaching clients – they are not un-focussed or lost, but they do want to:
- see their work as an expression of their life-purpose
- make their mark on the world – to know that in some way it’s a better place because of them
- to use and communicate their own unique gifts more clearly, more heroically.
When You Might Want More Focus

What If You Don’t Address The Focus Thing?
“Wake up and smell the coffee”, “Life is not a rehearsal”, "It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live". I could go on, but you get the point. What so many people have said in so many ways is that living and working without focus is only a kind of half-life – and even that comes at a price.
In particular, people without focus have reported:
- a sense of listlessness – of ‘what’s it all for’ world-weariness
- feeling like their wheels are spinning madly but they’re going nowhere
- seeing others take the lead on things they might have found rewarding
- their life flashing past with nothing meaningful to show for it
- being jealous of or scared or angered or otherwise unhealthily affected by people who dare to be different
- being incredibly busy yet doing nothing they want to do
- a deeply felt and nagging sensation of an opportunity passing or a call unheeded.
